Augustus Rolfe's Letter was addressed to Gabriel Allon in his real name. Augustus Rolfe wrote the letter fearing he would die.

Anna Rolfe found the letter among other documents at Becker & Puhl Bank. Augustus Rolfe explained that he wanted Gabriel to take possession of the paintings in his secret collection and wanted the government of Israel to try to return them to their rightful owners or place them in a museum in Israel. Rolfe wrote that people in Switzerland who did not want his possession of the paintings revealed had sent a representative of the Swiss security services to frighten him. Finally, Rolfe asked Gabriel to protect his daughter.
